Shih Tzus - Chloe and Callie

And now for something completely different! If you're familiar with any of my other work you may be wondering where the scales, horns and claws are... not to worry, there will soon be more of that.

I did these sculptures of my Mom's dogs Chloe (blackish one) and Callie (white and grey) for her for Mother's Day. I originally was trying to get these done for her for Christmas but I had so much freelance work at the time I kept having to put them on the backburner. I finally finished them up in time for Mother's Day. She loved them! She initially thought I'd bought some statues and repainted them but was delighted to find out I'd sculpted them. She was with me when I bought a lot of the sculpey.

They were a bit of a challenge to capture the fluffiness/wispiness of their hair in clay, so I ended up stylizing it a little. There's some things I wish I could have conveyed a little better but I think the sculptures capture the dogs' personality and general appearance OK.

They are Sculpey Premo over a wire, foil, plaster strip armature. The eyes are glass eyes from Van Dykes and the hair clasps are some sort of gold tone metal bands. The taller of the 2 is probably 10-12" tall, forgot to measure before I gave them to my Mom.
